Augustinians attend the feast of La Naval

The Augustinians joined the grand procession in honor of Our Lady of the Rosary, more known as the Our Lady of La Naval de Manila yesterday, October 09 at her national shrine in Quezon City.

The Augustinians were among the different religious congregations that participated in the event. Also present in the procession are the Discalced Augustinians, the Jesuits, the Carmelites, and the Franciscans. There were also diocesan seminarians and priests who attended the grand procession.

Thousands of people also gathered at her shrine in Quezon City to witness her and to participate in the grand procession.

A grand mass was held in honor of the Our Lady of La Naval Sunday morning which was presided by Most. Rev. Honesto Ongtioco D.D., Bishop of Cubao, while a mass for the devotees of the La Naval was held in the afternoon, right before the grand procession, which was presided by Rev. Fr. Roland Mactal, O.P., the Prior of Sto. Domingo.

The Our Lady of La Naval de Manila is a title of the Blessed Virgin Mary under the care of the Order of Preachers, or more known as the Dominicans.

The La Naval became known through the Filipino and Spanish troops that prayed to her during the Battles of La Naval de Manila (part of the Eighty Years War), when the Dutch Republic attempted to invade Manila in 1646.

She was canonically crowned in 1907 by Pope Pius X through Archbishop Dom Ambrose Agius, O.S.B. and was named 'Patroness of Quezon City' by Pope Paul VI in 1973.
